Lighthouse Works is pleased to welcome our 26th session of fellows to Fishers Island. Beverly Acha, Jibade-Khalil Huffman, Kristy Luck and Katherine Taylor were selected by independent panels from a pool of over 800 applicants and will be in residence from August 29 until October 10, 2017.
Please join us as we welcome our newest group of fellows and see and hear about their work.
Beverly Acha
*Beverly Acha, born in Miami, Florida, creates paintings, prints, drawings, and sculptures that explore structure, time, space and the visible and invisible forces and systems that shape our world. She holds an MFA from Yale University and a BA from Williams College. Recent exhibitions include Mutualities, a solo show at the Roswell Museum and Art Center (Roswell, NM), and group shows at Alexander’s Garage (Brooklyn, NY), Laundromat Art Space (Miami, FL), La MaMa Galleria (NYC), and El Museo del Barrio (NYC). Recent residencies and awards include The Wassaic Project Residency, Roswell Artist-in-Residence Fellowship Program, Salem Art Works Fellowship, Robert Schoelkopf Memorial Travel Grant, and Frederick M. Peyser Prize in Painting. Acha has served as a visiting critic at the School of Visual Arts, Rhode Island School of Design, and Williams College where she was also Visiting Lecturer in 2015. She was appointed Smelser-Vallion Visiting Artist at Oklahoma State University for 2017-2018 and will be a Lecturer in Studio Art at University of California Davis beginning January 2018.
- Jibade-Kahlil Huffman
Jibade-Khalil Huffman's photo and video works are experimentations relating archives and collage to nostalgia and memory. His recent and forthcoming solo and group presentations include Swiss Institute, Anat Ebgi, MoCA Detroit, The Jewish Museum and ICA Philadelphia. Huffman is the author of three books of poems and was recently an Artist-in-Residence at the Studio Museum in Harlem. He lives and works in New York.
Kristy Luck
Kristy Luck lives and works in Los Angeles, California. She received an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2014 and graduated with a BFA from Rockford University in 2010. Her works have been exhibited in London, LA, New York, Philadelphia and Iceland with recent shows at HILDE, Beers London, Harpy and Shrine.
Katherine Taylor
Katherine is the author of the novels Valley Fever (Farrar, Straus, and Giroux 2015) and Rules for Saying Goodbye (Farrar, Straus, and Giroux 2007). Her stories and essays have appeared in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Elle, Town & Country, Allure, ZYZZYVA, The Southwest Review, and Ploughshares, among other publications. She has won a Pushcart Prize and the McGinnis Ritchie Award for Fiction. Katherine lives in Los Angeles.
